Begin and end with the Sign of the Cross.
[A] Opening Prayer: My God, I offer You this Rosary for Your glory so that I can honor Your Holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin, so I can share and meditate upon her suffering. I humbly beg You to give true repentance for all my sins. Give me wisdom and humility so that I may receive all the indulgences contained in this prayer.

​[B] Act of Contrition: O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend You, my God, You who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
(Three Hail Mary's in honor of our Lady's tears.)

​[C] Hail Mary, full of grace, the LORD is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

​​[D] Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the sorrows of your Son, Jesus.

​(Don’t forget to state your prayer intentions. What are you asking of Mary? This is very important!)

Then consider each of the Seven Sorrows: Start with the [E] “Our Father.” Then say seven [C] “Hail Mary” prayers, then the [D] “Most Merciful Mother” prayer.

​[E] Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.AMEN.

​[F] Closing Prayer: Queen of Martyrs, your heart suffered so much. I beg you by the merits of the tears you shed in these terrible and sorrowful times to obtain for me and all the sinners of the world the grace of complete sincerity and repentance. AMEN.

​[G] Mary, who was conceived without sin and who suffered for us, pray for us. (said 3 times)

The Brown Family Prayer Book

This is a prayer book we used with our kids as they were growing up.  It contains WAY more than just the Seven Sorrows Rosary.  It's 94 pages, but don't worry, we don't pray the WHOLE prayer- book EVERY night.
