Cultural Shift
Feb 27, 2025I realized a few years ago that the cultural shift we’re undergoing is one where each new stage invalidates the so-called logic that was used to justify the previous stage.
For example, the sexual revolution of the 1960s claimed:
Intimacy can be whatever you want it to be; it isn’t dependent upon your marriage.
Let’s call that Insanity Stage 1, even if not everyone agreed at the time that it was insane. Interestingly, the claim of Insanity Stage 1 became irrelevant once we drifted into the next level of insanity:
(Insanity Stage 2): Marriage can be whatever you want it to be; it isn’t dependent upon your gender.
At this point, many decent people couldn’t see the insanity, but upon close inspection, we can see a pattern:
A can be whatever you want, as long as we redefine B.
But once B is redefined, it becomes the new A, setting the stage for the next redefinition.
Insanity is taking hold.
Looking back, we now see that Stage 2 followed this exact formula—the foundation of the previous claim was removed and replaced with something entirely new.
So what happens when gender, which was B in Stage 2, becomes A in Stage 3?
(Insanity Stage 3): Gender can be whatever you want it to be; it isn’t dependent upon your body.
Like the “X” on the emergency escape map, we are HERE.
So the question is: what’s next?
Following the pattern, B was the body in Stage 3. The next phase must redefine the body itself—turning material reality into just another construct to be reshaped at will.
(Insanity Stage 4): Your body can be whatever you want it to be; it isn’t dependent upon matter.
We can trace specific cultural markers for each stage:
- Roe v. Wade (sex outside the borders of marriage)
- Obergefell v. Hodges (marriage outside the borders of gender)
- Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover (gender outside the borders of biology)
So what is the next cultural marker?
I’m not sure, but Insanity Stage 4 is transhumanism. And I don’t know what happens when we can’t even agree on the definition of matter.

P.S. My friend Matt Reinkemeyer shared the following as an extension of this pattern:
- Matter can be whatever you want it to be, it isn't dependent upon your soul.
- Your soul can be whatever you want it to be, it isn't dependent upon your ultimate end.
- Your ultimate end can be whatever you want it to be, it isn't dependent upon your beginning.
- Your beginning can be whatever you want it to be, it isn't dependent upon God.
- God can be whatever you want it to be, because your view of god isn't dependent upon anything
